Equitable Development

Arts and culture is both a strategy for, and a core component of, an equitable society. Cultural life and economic well-being are deeply intertwined in low-income communities and communities of color, from successful small entrepreneurs to vibrant commercial corridors. The organizations that participated in the Community Development Investments program worked with artists to spur economic growth where it’s needed most. These projects served to:

  • Engage with residents to co-create a vision for equitable development (Strawberry Mansion Reimagines Mander, Community Catalyst Residency, JABEZ Community Engagement, Creative Community Design Build, Real Possibilities)
  • Intervene against gentrification and displacement pressures (+LAB Artist Residency, 341 FSN, First Street North, Takachizu)
